Computone Lyricon Wind Synthesizer Driver, Serial #B394. Recently refurbished NOS (New old stock); not previously sold. This instrument has been in storage since the late 1970’s, and is in beautiful shape. It is from the stock remaining after Computone closed. The sensor membrane has been replaced and the optical sensors have been upgraded with modern, state of the art components that are more reliable and sensitive than the original, primative parts from the mid 1970s. The instrument has been thoroughly inspected, calibrated and tuned. It is a rare and exceptional instrument. Included is the power cord, users manual, case key and expansion port connector. This instrument also has a factory installed VCA. It is possible to route an audio signal through the VCA IN jack and the VCA OUT jack, and control the volume of the signal by the strength of air pressure applied to the mouthpiece. We’ve seen this feature as an after-market modification on Wind Drivers in the past, but this is a rare example of this feature installed during the initial build of the instrument.
The build quality of Lyricon instruments is un-matched by any modern (or vintage) wind controllers. Utilizing a chrome plated brass housing (not plastic) and spring loaded key pivots with metal keys, the action is similar to a traditional acoustic wind instrument. This type of action is familiar and preferred by many musicians. It is strictly an analog instrument. There is no MIDI, though the analog control voltages can be used to drive a CV to MIDI converter (not included) if desired.
The Wind Synthesizer Driver outputs analog control voltages that must be connected to a separate synthesizer (not included). It will not produce sound on it’s own. It is a Synthesizer Driver. Numerous 1/4″ jacks are provided that output control voltages for Pitch, Wind (volume), Gates and Pitch Bend (lip). These outputs could be connected to a synthesizer’s VCO, VCA, Gate and VCF inputs, though only a VCO and VCA is required. If you prefer an instrument that has on-board sound generating capabilities, the Lyricon 1 or the Lyricon II would be more appropriate.
This instrument is compatible with our Euro-Rack module.
This Lyricon Wind Synthesizer Driver is available for $2700.00 plus shipping. Please contact us for more information, and a link to a short demo video of this instrument.
Computone Lyricon Wind Synthesizer Driver, Serial #B131. Recently refurbished, used Driver in excellent shape. The sensor membrane has been replaced and the optical sensors have been upgraded with modern, state of the art components that are more reliable and sensitive than the original, primative parts from the mid 1970s. The instrument has been thoroughly inspected, calibrated and tuned. Included is the power cord, users manual, case key and expansion port connector. This instrument also has an after-market installed VCA. The VCA has been tested and works well. An audio signal can be inserted into the IN jack and it’s volume varied by blowing into the controller (horn). The OUT jack can be connected to an amplifier.

The Lyricon Company Euro-Rack Module. We also design and manufacture accessories, including a Euro-Rack Lyricon interface module that works with the Lyricon II and Driver controllers (horns). This module provides a sub-set of the Control Voltages produced by a Wind Driver Console, and so removes the need for the actual console (the case); great for touring! This module would typically be installed in a Euro-Rack modular synthesizer, along with the minimum of a VCA module and a VCO module, of which there are dozens of each to choose from.
The Lyricon Euro-Rack Module is available for $380.00 plus shipping.
